At a total of roughly 650,000 m3, Finnish exports of softwood lumber and planed products in April were 3.4% lower than in the same month of last year. The reason for the reduction was a decline in exports to buyers outside Europe, which were almost 11% lower than in the same month of last year at approximately 357,000 m3.
According to the figures from the Finnish Forest Industries Federation, exports to Japan fell disproportionately heavily by 44% to 58,000 m3. Exports to Algeria and to Saudi Arabia also fell 43% and 40% short of the figures for a year earlier at 33,000 m3 and 26,000 m3 respectively. In contrast, deliveries to Egypt continued to rise and reached the highest figure of all the recipient countries in April at 110,000 m3. Exports to buyers within Europe were raised by roughly 7% in April to 292,000 m3.
Here, exports to the recipient countries of Spain and Italy, whose levels have been poor, rose again for the first time in quite a while, albeit from a correspondingly low baseline.
