The firewood to be delivered will comply with the provisions of STAS 2340/1980 (category A - shaped hardwood hardwood, placed in stacks). This standard refers to wood of various hardwoods and softwoods, resulting from forestry operations and from cutting the excess lengths of logs, intended for fuel, called firewood. Category A includes shaped wood placed in stacks and double stacks - hardwood hardwoods, with a maximum of 10% softwood or softwoods.

Sterile shaped wood:
- length 1m+/-5cm
- thickness (with bark): round: 5...15 cm at the thin end; split (lobed): max. 30 cm width of the face.

Defects:

The firewood that is the subject of this specification cannot have the following defects:
- rot with cubic structure;
- fibrous rot, in compliance with the conditions specified in art.2.3 of STAS 2340/1980.

Shaping:

The trees are felled with a saw in forest exploitations and with an axe in groves, the wood remaining with bark, partially or completely peeled, as resulting from the exploitations.
The firewood shaped in steri must have the stumps cut down to the face of the wood. The ends of the firewood must be cut off with a saw, except for breaks and the end coming from the stump.

Firewood shaped into steri with a thickness of 16...25 cm must be split in two, that with a thickness of 26...40 cm must be split into four approximately equal pieces, and that with a thickness of 40 cm into so many pieces that the largest width of the split piece, measured at the thick end of the wood, does not exceed 30 cm.
The following conditions must also be observed: - the wood shaped into steri will be cut to 30 cm in length; - the diameter of the shaped wood will be between 5 and 25 cm, maximum 30 cm width of the face.

Humidity:

The humidity of the firewood covered by this specification is determined indirectly in relation to the weight of the ster, as shown below:
- the weight of the firewood at the time of delivery by the producer or distributor must not exceed, at a cubic factor of 0.62, the weight of 500 kg meter-ster of hard species without admixture of soft or resinous species.

In order to meet the above condition, the firewood covered by this specification must be very well dried (the trees must have been cut down at least one year before the date of delivery).
