The construction industry faces a paradox - it must build more houses while emitting less carbon. Clearly a change is needed. No longer can construction be an industry with relatively low productivity, high waste and high carbon emissions.
Collaboration between government and industry is needed to deliver more high-quality homes, faster, and provide jobs and local economic growth in the UK. Timber-framed homes built off-site can be finished 30% quicker than using traditional methods, built more cheaply and quietly while cutting emissions.
Building regulations and policies need to change to help housebuilders innovate, and the use of low-carbon materials in construction needs to be incentivised.
