The turnover generated by forestry units in Romania fell to RON 4.132 billion in 2025, representing a 21.5% decrease compared with the RON 5.26 billion recorded in the previous year.
Data published by Romania’s National Institute of Statistics indicates a significant contraction in forestry sector revenue, amid changes in the structure of timber sales, different trends across forest product categories and continued pressure on the wood market.
🌲 Structure of timber sales in 2025
In 2025, Romanian forestry units sold approximately 8.056 million cubic metres of standing timber, while sales of harvested and processed roundwood reached approximately 4.597 million cubic metres.
Of the total gross volume of wood sold:
The volume of harvested timber sold decreased by 4.3% compared with 2024, while standing timber sales increased by 15.4%. This development points to a changing commercial structure in the forestry sector and could influence raw material availability for sawmills, timber producers and companies operating in the wood processing industry.
🌲 Average timber prices
The average price of standing timber reached RON 230.1 per cubic metre, while the average price of harvested and processed timber stood at RON 335.3 per cubic metre.
For wood industry professionals, monitoring timber prices, available wood volumes and the price differences between standing timber and harvested roundwood remains essential for estimating production costs, negotiating supply contracts and planning wood procurement.

🌿 Strong growth in sawn timber and semi-finished wood products
Although sawn timber and other semi-finished wood products represented only a small share of total sales, this category recorded one of the strongest increases. The volume sold reached approximately 41,000 cubic metres, up 81.4% compared with the previous year.
Sales increases were also reported for forest fruits, honey, truffles, edible mushrooms and game meat. By contrast, sales of forestry and ornamental seedlings decreased by 23.8%, while forest seed sales fell by 20.1%.
For sawmills, lumber manufacturers, wood distributors and exporters of wood products, these figures highlight the importance of closely monitoring raw material availability, regional timber prices and demand across international markets.
Outlook for the wood industry
The 21.5% decline in turnover does not automatically indicate a similar reduction in the total volume of wood sold. Differences between product categories suggest that the financial performance of forestry units was influenced by the structure of timber sales, average selling prices and the share of different forest products in total revenue.
Companies operating across the wood industry should continue to monitor timber and lumber prices, the availability of harvested wood, forestry and transport costs, as well as the development of wood imports and exports.
Changes in Romania’s forestry sector may also affect sawmills, furniture manufacturers, construction timber suppliers, biomass producers and other companies dependent on a stable supply of wood raw materials.
