EGGER Acquires Italian Recycling Company Lenocart, Strengthening Its Wood Recycling Network

EGGER Group has acquired 100% of Italian recycling company Lenocart S.r.l., expanding its recycled wood collection network in Italy and strengthening the supply of secondary wood raw materials to its particleboard operations.

The transaction was completed on 28 July 2026 and officially announced by EGGER on 2 September. Lenocart is based in the Milan metropolitan area and operates in the collection, trading and transportation of recyclable materials and waste.

The acquisition represents another step in EGGER's strategy of expanding its international recycling infrastructure and securing reliable access to recycled wood and post-consumer wood for its wood-based panel production.

Lenocart to join EGGER`s Timberpak recycling network

Lenocart will become part of the international EGGER Timberpak network of recycling and collection sites. The acquisition also includes Lenocart`s transport fleet, giving EGGER additional logistical capacity for the collection and movement of recovered materials.

Lenocart had already been an EGGER business partner for several years, making the acquisition an extension of an established commercial relationship.

Its location in the Milan metropolitan area is strategically important. Northern Italy contains one of Europe`s largest concentrations of furniture producers, wood processors and industrial manufacturing companies, creating substantial flows of recyclable and post-consumer wood.

The integration of Lenocart therefore gives EGGER greater control over the collection, sorting, preparation and transportation of recovered wood within an important Italian industrial region.

Recycled wood supply for EGGER`s Caorso particleboard plant

The recovered wood collected through Lenocart will support EGGER`s production activities at Caorso, in the province of Piacenza.

The Caorso operation has a particularly important role in EGGER`s circular-economy strategy because its particleboard production is based on 100% post-consumer recycled wood.

According to EGGER, approximately 600,000 tonnes of post-consumer wood are processed annually through the Caorso operation, originating from separate waste collection, demolition activities and furniture manufacturing.

Increasing direct access to recyclable wood can consequently help the group improve raw-material security while reducing dependency on primary wood resources.

Wood recycling is becoming increasingly strategic for panel producers

The acquisition also reflects a wider development within the European wood-based panels and particleboard industry.

Access to recovered wood is becoming an increasingly important competitive factor as manufacturers seek to combine raw-material security, environmental targets and production costs.

For particleboard manufacturers in particular, geographically efficient collection systems can reduce transportation distances and create more predictable flows of recycled raw materials.

Vertical integration into recycling can therefore provide several strategic advantages: greater visibility over available recycled wood volumes, improved logistics, more stable sourcing and stronger control over raw-material quality.

For professionals following the European wood market, acquisitions of recycling and collection businesses should therefore also be viewed as developments in raw-material procurement rather than simply environmental investments.

Changes in recycled wood availability can influence particleboard production, wood panel prices, manufacturing margins and trade flows across European markets.

A broader circular-economy strategy in Italy

EGGER has progressively strengthened its presence in Italy. The group entered the Caorso particleboard operation through its acquisition of a majority stake in SAIB in 2022, while recycling activities have also been developed through its collection operations in Urbania.

The Lenocart acquisition extends this infrastructure into the Milan region and strengthens the connection between wood waste collection, recycling logistics and industrial panel production.

For the European wood industry, the transaction highlights the growing strategic value of recovered wood as a raw material and the increasing integration of recycling directly into wood manufacturing supply chains.
